Diagnosis

Differs from all congeners except Puntius sophore, Puntius chola, Puntius brevis, and Puntius burmanicus by having frontoparietal fontanel, and from those species by presence of dark band encircling caudal peduncle. Barbels absent, lateral line complete, last unbranched dorsal fin ray compact except distally, and serrae absent (Ref. 75627).
