Diagnosis

Diagnosis: conspicuous discrete dark spot present on upper pectoral fin base (if specimen is very dark spot may not be highly contrasted but is still distinct; sensory papillae on upper rear field of opercle form a single arching row; 54-63 scales in longitudinal series, usually 56 or more (Ref. 81660).

Description: 39-55 predorsal scales (usually 39-47); posterior half of cheeks usually with small cycloid scales; opercle usually entirely scaled; 54-63 longitudinal scales (usually 56-60); 16-22 (usually more than 18) transverse scale rows (Ref. 81660).

Coloration: distinct spot on upper pectoral fin base; spotting on flanks irregular, less uniform and with larger spots than in E. daganensis; dorsum may be dark with 4-5 saddle-like bands, not extending below mid-line; some individuals with a spot on lower pectoral fin base; 1st dorsal fin with two dark horizontal bands separated by translucent band; 2nd dorsal fin with 4-5 longitudinal rows of spots; anal fin with rows of spots; some specimens dark with dusky pectoral and pelvic fins, median fins with banded pattern; caudal fin dusky with indistinct vertical bands of spots; abdomen generally tan (Ref. 81660).
