Diagnosis

Distinguished from its congeners by having posterior extremity of maxilla irregularly serrated; opercle, subopercle, interopercle, cleithrum and postcleithrum serrated. Differs further by the following combination of characters: posterior border of maxilla reaching anterior border of orbit; 4 (occasionally 3) predorsal bones; no supernumerary spine on first dorsal pterygiophore; 4th or 5th dorsal fin spine longest; 15-17 pectoral fin rays; 9-11 anal fin rays; 44-48 caudal fin rays; procurrent spur absent (Ref. 55324).
