Diagnosis

Body cylindrical and elongated, last dorsal ray simple and strongly ossified, not denticulated, spiny and well-developed; snout pointed with well-developed lips often provided with a median lobe. The anterior barbel is longer than the posterior barbel, reaching the anterior side of the eye. The posterior barbel reaches at least until the middle of the eye but never reaches the posterior side of the eye in the specimens examined (Ref. 27626).
