Comments | Groups of transgenic Danio rerio that have been genetically modified to glow blue, green, or red under blacklight were first spotted in Paraíba do Sul River Basin in 2015. It is likely that these fish escaped from an ornamental aquaculture center in Muriaé. In 2017, transgenic Danio rerio were present in five creeks in three municipalities. Ecological impacts are unpredicatable, and may include the introduction of fluorescence-endowing genes in native fish with detrimental effects. Ref: |
