Comments: The initial introduction of this fish in 1964 failed. Established in the extreme southeastern Florida as a result of a deliberate reintroduction made between 1984-1987 of approx. 20,000 pond-raised fingerlings into 11 coastal canals. Is a highly sought sport fish and has been able to control the increase of the abundant exotic forage species without detrimentally affecting native fish populations (Ref. 12389). Probably added additional "cichlid pressures" to native fishes (Ref. 13364).     Ref:  Shafland, P.L., 1995
