Comments: | Introduced by Liao, Huang and Tseng with the assistance of Pruginin for obtaining all-male offspring when hybridized with O. niloticus females. The hybrids became the main species being cultured in Taiwan with a total production of 50,000 t (Ref. 6300). Also introduced for the control of aquatic vegetation (Ref. 4537). The Taiwanese government monitor as well as regulate the dissemination of the tilapias, and there are no reported adverse effects of their introduction at present. Also Ref. 61, 13364.
