Definition of Term

ventral fins
(English) Pair of fins corresponding to the hind limbs of higher vertebrates; these vary in position from well behind the pectoral-fin base, to below it, to distinctly before it, their progression forward in general paralleling the advancement of their bearers up the evolutionary ladder to more specialized levels. Sometimes lacking. Also called pelvic fins. (See also: pelvic fins, pectoral fins, ventral)
nageoires pelviennes
(French) Paire de nageoires qui correspondent aux membres postérieurs des plus hauts vertébrés ; ceux-ci varient de position de derrière la base de la nageoire pectorale jusqu’en dessous ou à l'avant de la nageoire pectorale, leur progression vers la partie antérieure du corps est en général parallèle à l'avancement de leurs porteurs en haut l'échelle évolutionnaire aux niveaux plus spécialisés. barbatanas ventrais
(Portuguese) Par de barbatanas que correspondem aos membros superiores dos vertebrados superiores; variam na sua posição desde de bem atrás da base das barbatanas peitorais até por baixo e distintamente depois delas, indicando a sua posição relativa o grau evolutivo da espécie que o possui.
