Comments

The taxonomic status of the Kenyan populations is uncertain, most likely it is a species distinct from Protopterus amphibius (Ref. 52331). Known from the northern Ewaso Nyiro River (Ref. 41467, 52331) and lower parts of coastal drainages, including lower Tana River (Ref. 52331) and lower Athi-Galana-Sabaki (Ref. 36900, 52331). It is fairly common in most floodwater pools and swamps near the Athi and Tana rivers (Ref. 41458). Also known from Lake Jilori (Ref. 36900, 41467, 52331). Also Ref. 3498, 43033.
