Recorded from the Yili river (Ref. 41093) and from almost all of drainages in China (Ref. 45657) and Tungting (=Dong Ting) Lake where it is known as "nian-y" (Ref. 35840). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (intensive culture and extensive stocking in all kinds of inland waters) (Ref. 55380).
