Comments

Known from Borneo and Sumatra. Has disappeared in the Kapuas basin, west Borneo (Ref. 12217). Found in the Kapuas Lakes Area, western Borneo. Recorded from Danau Sentarum National Park in the Kapuas basin of Borneo, Kalimantan Barat (Ref. 56749). Reported by fishermen to occur in rivers with moderate to fast current and feed on small fish, crustaceans and insect larvae (Ref. 56749). There was a drastic decrease of its catches after 1975 and the fish is now considered rare or extirpated possibly due to overfishing for the aquarium trade or forest fires in 1975 as suggested by fishermen (Ref. 56749). It is not certain whether wild populations still survive; individuals exported from Indonesia are bred in captivity (Ref. 56749). Also Ref. 26580, 36654, 43281.
