Type locality, Erzurum prov.: Ovit (2) [Kan] Stream at Ovit mountain, Çoruh River drainage, FFR 3000 (holotype of Salmo rizeensis, 23.4 cm SL, male). Found in the headwaters and upper reaches of the streams and rivers entering the Black Sea along its southeastern and southern coasts between Sakarya drainage in the west and Coruh drainage in the east (Ref. 85599).
