Type locality, stream tributary to rio das Velhas, at Igreja Quebrada, near Jaguara, Pedro Leopoldo, Minas Gerais, MZUSP 89625 (holotype of Salminus franciscanus, 32.4 cm SL). Endemic from the rio São Francisco basin (Ref. 75797).
