Occurs throughout the country. Caught inshore by shore and skiboat anglers (Ref. 27121). Not actively fished commercially but taken by hake trawlers and the pectoral fins are marketed for human consumption (Ref. 5578, 27121). Reports of R. clavata and R. straeleni may represent a single species of an uncertain name (Compagno pers. comm. in Ref. 27121). Also Ref. 2708, 4426, 54854.
