Distributed around southern Australia from Shark Bay (WA) to southern Queensland, including Tasmania and Lord Howe Island (Ref. 33616).

Commercial fishery: Not fished commercially although those caught in bottom trawls and sometimes with hook and line are of excellent quality (Ref. 33839).
