Previously reported from the Komati, Usutu and Ngwavuma systems (Ref. 13406) but present investigations did not produce any riverine specimens throughout the country. It is common where it has been introduced, e.g. Van Eck Dam, Big Ben. Its perceived decline may be due in part to its being a desirable sportfish (13493). Status of threat: Data deficient (Ref. 58453).
