Hawai'i Island to Kaua'i in the lower reaches of streams and sometimes in estuaries (Ref. 58302). Found in the mountain streams; postlarvae are nocturnal recruiters and are poor swimmers in the estuary (Ref. 33984). Abundant on O'ahu (Ref. 58302).
