In the 1980s, fishermen's reports of catching specimens on the Corcovado and Pico Pacific drainage basins were confirmed. It is quite probable that these were not descendants of the original introductions (in 1904) but escaped specimens of the Chilean aquaculture facilities that have migrated upriver and established self-supporting runs (Ref. 56821). MtDNA study confirmed spawning populations in the Santa Cruz river flowing to the Atlantic Ocean from Argentina were from Puget Sound, Washington, imported into southern Chile in the 1980s (Ref. 76986). Also Ref. 84422.
