Known from the Benue River (Ref. 51193, 57129, 82489), Lake Chad basin (Ref. 51193) and Sanaga River (Ref. 27691, 81644). Presence in the Djerem basin (upper Sanaga River basin) probably the result of escape from the Fisheries Station at Yaoundé or, less likely, due to contacts between the Logone system and Djerem system (Ref. 82489). Introduced as aquaculture species and for predation on stunted Tilapia in 1972 and 1973 from Central Africa (Ref. 82489).
