Occurs throughout the Chao Phraya and its tributary (Pasak), and in the Tapi (Ref. 1632), Mekong River, Maeklong, Peninsular and Southeast Thailand river systems (Ref. 26336); also from Nonthaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Khon Kaen and Kanchanaburi (Ref. 37773). Is adaptable to pond conditions but growth rate is not at satisfactory levels. Eaten fresh and smoked (Ref. 6459).
