Occurs in Kunene, Cuvelai (Ref. 52863), Kwando, Chobe (Ref. 37065, 52863), Okavango (Ref. 37619, 44661, 52863), and Upper Zambezi rivers (Ref. 52863, 53992). Also in Lake Liambezi and Linyanti swamps (Caprivi)(Ref. 2895, 37065). Known from the Hardap Dam (Namibia), where it was bred at the hatchery since 1983, and from were it was further distributed, probably for sport fishing or as a forage fish for bass (Ref. 39194).
