Occurs naturally in the Upper Zambezi (Ref. 12524, 13337, 32831, 36532) but has been transplanted into the Middle and Lower Zambezi, Upper Save/Runde (Ref. 36532), Lake Kariba (Ref. 12524, 13337, 3283, 583631)(introduced from Kafue River to develop new fisheries, Ref. 3), Lake Kyle (Ref. 32831) and many ponds and dams throughout the territory (Ref. 13337). Introduced to Lake McIlwaine (Ref. 2, 3, 36094, 42743) from Kafue River, to develop new fisheries (Ref. 3), in 1956 (Ref. 27445) or 1957 (Ref. 36094). Also Ref. 58, 37573, 54167.
