Occurs in Madi, Seti, Arun and Tamur rivers (Ref. 12045), preferring sandy or rock bottomed crevices of rivers (Ref. 57735). Recorded from Bheri, Karnal Koshi and Narayani zone at 190-450 m altitude (Ref. 9496). Also reported from Gandaki, Trisuli and Mahakali rivers (Ref. 85009). Preserved in temple ponds and worshipped as a Fish Goddess. Considered threatened (Ref. 12045). Also Ref. 6351, 129076.

Status of threat: vulnerable (Ref. 85009).
