Known from the Dja system (Sangha drainage, middle Congo River basin) (Ref. 51193, 74421) and coastal rivers in the south of Cameroon (Ref. 51193), including the Nyong, Lobé and Ntem basins (Ref. 80290). The specimens BMNH 1920.5.17:5-6, reported from the Dja River basin and previously identified as Bryconaethiops yseuxi by Boulenger (1916) are misidentifications of Bryconaethiops microstoma (Ref. 74421). Also Ref. 5331.
