Found in both white and clear waters; collected in stream-swamps called 'inactive caños' in Caño Guaritico and in floodplain lakes and artificial lagoons. Common in the Venezuelan Ilanos (Ref. 27749). Found also in Pedernales channel, Mánamo channel - Güinamorena, Guanipa river - Venado channel, Manamito channel and mouth of Bagre (Ref. 51849).
