Type locality: Lake Ponchartrain, New Orleans, Louisiana (Ref. 79012). Transplanted elsewhere in western USA. A popular aquarium fish, found in 80% of pet shops near Lakes Erie and Ontario (Ref. 53249). Observed in hundreds in the Mangroves of Florida (Sailfin Molly, pers.comm. 09/2015; http://fishbase.us/fbforum/admin/view_topic.php?id=6341). Also Ref. 7251. |
