Historically found in several tributaries of Tennessee River in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia to Alabama; now present only in Little Tennessee River in North Carolina, Buffalo and Emory river in Tennessee, and Holston River in Virginia and Tennessee (Ref. 86798).
