Occurs in Monterey Bay (Ref. 12091). The object of smallscale harpoon fisheries in California. Protected by Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) in US Atlantic. Vulnerable in the eastern Pacific, no recent records from Gulf of California indicates that it is now likely extirpated (in 2000); conservation dependent in western Atlantic (Ref. 36717). An adult female (8.285 m TL, 1980 kg) was caught about 75 m off Grassy Point, Sarasota Country, Florida in the Gulf of Mexico in April 1969 (Ref. 39694). Also Ref. 247, 4925, 6885, 43278. |
