Widely distributed in the upper reaches of the three western branches of Mae Nam Chao Phraya: Mae Nam Ping, Mae Nam Wang and Mae Nam Yom where it is one of the commonest species in small mountain streams with fast and shallow water. Juveniles were observed at Ban Tham Chiang to form loose troups of 10-20 individuals (Ref. 39226); also from Phrae, Chaiya Phum and Chiang Mai (Ref. 37773). Also Ref. 1632, 12041, 26580.
