Occurs in the Iberian Peninsula (Ref. 119049). Found in streams draining to Mediterranean, between Vinalopo and (but not including) Ebro drainages, and in a few headwaters of Guadiana drainage (Ref. 59043). Recorded from BaldovĂ­ Lake, Valencia, East Spain (Ref. 50467). Fishery 1989: species subject to commercial fishing (Ref. 79582). Threatened due to habitat destruction, pollution, and introductions of exotic predators (Ref. 79582). Minimum capture size: 18-20 cm TL (Ref. 119049). Also Ref. 6376, 26100.

Status of threat: vulnerable (Ref. 59043), near threatened (Ref. 119049).
