Comments |
Occurs abundantly from Cape Agulhas to northern Natal (Ref. 4373). Prefers "linefish grounds", especially wrecks or high profile reefs associated with sand. Perhaps the premier angling species in estuaries and surf zones along the South African east coast. Status of stock indeterminate; possibly depressed; sustained landings in Natal; declining catch in the southeast coast where it is a major component of recreational and commercial linefish catch (Ref. 4332). Angling record: 73.5 kg; spearfishing record: 48.6 kg (Ref. 12484). Generally sold fresh; sometimes frozen. Also Ref. 4336, 9772, 75154. |
