Comments

Ranges from the west coast to central Natal. Restricted to the surf zone in Natal but ranges down to 73 m south of Natal (Ref. 3919). Enters estuaries when upwelling occurs on the south coast (Ref. 3919). Sometimes caught by trawlers in the eastern Cape (Ref. 12484). Stock sound; important shore tournament catch; non-commercial (Ref. 4332). Although it is a poor fighter, it is considered a good catch by anglers because its flesh is makes excellent eating (Ref. 12484). Spearfishing this species is illegal in Natal (Ref. 12484).
