Known from the Upper and Lower Niger (Ref. 31256) including Niger delta (Ref. 43789, 57125) and Kainji Lake (Ref. 45874), Benue River (Ref. 3064) and Chad basin (Ref. 31256, 57125). It is a predominant bagrid species in the Faku region of Kainji Lake (Ref. 51847), and exploited commercially (Ref. 3799). Also frequently caught in long-lines and gillnets set inshore in Lake Chad (Ref. 13851).
