The national minimum size of capture is 200 g, except in Lake Ellesmere, where 140 g minimum size was instituted. Found all year round in North Island; seasonal in South Island where most hibernate during winter (Ref. 9258). Known also in Chathams Island (Ref. 45493). Potentially being spread into areas that were naturally free of eels (Ref. 52336). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ. Also Ref. 3157, 3243, 11115, 75154. |
