Known from Tarawa, Gilbert Islands and at Fanning Island, Line Islands. According to local fishermen in Tarawa, these fish form large schools in lagoons, migrate to the outer reef slope and form spawning aggregations. These aggregations may be observed three days prior and three days after the new moon. According to Gilbertese fishermen at Fanning Island spawning aggregations form two days prior to the full moon. They say that during spawning, the fish tend to rub their bodies against rocks. Caught mainly during spawning periods with nets. |
