Very common in brackishwaters of the coastal regions of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Found in Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108) and Gadana, Tamiraparani River basin (Ref. 44151). Introduced to India according to Welcomme 1988 (Ref. 1739). Also Ref. 43630, 45204, 45255, 52307.
