At Tortuguero, this fish reproduces throughout the year, with greater incidence of juveniles in September. Not common in the Atlantic and northern sectors of the country; in the northern Pacific sector where it is very scattered in the Tempisque and Bebedero drainages. Probably introduced in the Río Tárcoles headwaters (Ref. 36880). Also Ref. 4537.
