Known from Chiloango River (Ref. 1880, 41597, 42034), mouth of Congo River (Ref. 86940) and lower Congo River basin (Ref. 2244, 2263, 3016, 41591, 44984). No observations in upper parts of rivers (Ref. 2244); specimens identified as Pellonula vorax from Boma (Ref. 1878, 1879, 4913), Vivi (Ref. 1878, 1879, 9166), Lake Tumba (Ref. 1878, 1879, 4913, 44912, 44984), middle Congo River (Ref. 1878, 1879, 4913), Ubangui River (Ref. 1884) and Poko (Ref. 41594) are misidentifications for other species (Ref. 2244, 2263, 42033). The type locality of the syntypes of the nominal species Pellonula stanleyana, 'Stanley Falls' (Ref. 2263), seems to be an erroneous locality (Ref. 188), and should be 'Cette Cama [= Sette Cama]' in Gabon (Ref. 2244).
