Specimens identified as Papyrocranus afer from the Congo River basin are geographically isolated from West African populations of P. afer and readily distinguished by meristics and coloration (Ref. 7431). Therefore the presence of P. afer in the Congo River basin (Ref. 3516) is based on misidentifications of P. congoensis (Ref. 7431). |
