Collected from mangrove creeks in southwestern Taiwan (Pu-Tai and Pei-Men) (Ref. 48455). First successful larviculture in Taiwan occurred in 1975 (Ref. 40297). Crossed with O. niloticus females to produce all male offspring; the resulting hybrid is now the tilapia mainly cultured in Taiwan. |
