Known from the Yellow River (Ref. 12218) and from the the Yangtze River system: in the lower reaches of the Jinshajiang (below Shigu), Mingjiang, Tuojiang, Jialingjiang, Qujiang, and Wujiang rivers (Ref. 45259). A popular cultured fish, introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (extensive stocking in reservoirs and ponds) (Ref. 55380). Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 45563).

Known from Shanghai City, Yichang and Xiangxi of Hubei Province, and also Sichuan Province (Ref. 4743). Also Ref. 4537, 31517, 36732, 45563, 47439.
