Native species ranging from Quebec to Nova Scotia, introduced into Ontario (Ref. 52559). Known from St. Lawrence drainage, Quebec southward to Lake Superior; introduced to Great Lakes (except Superior) (Ref. 86798). Rarely caught as a game fish (Ref. 52559). A popular fish sold in live fish markets. Found in 1 out of 6 live fish markets near the Lakes Erie and Ontario (Ref. 53249). Also Ref. 5951.
