Known from the Itacaiúnas River and in its right-bank tributary, the Cateté River (average elevation of localities around 220 m a.s.l.), both located in the Mosaic of Conservation Units of Serra dos Carajás, Tocantins-Araguaia River Basin, State of Pará. Together with Tometes kranponhah and Mylesinus paucisquamatus, this species is locally referred as ‘pacu‒borracha' (literally translated as `rubber pacu'), because of the rubbery texture of its flesh when cooked (Ref. 116762). |
