Type locality, "Western" spring, approximately 2.4 km northeast of Edgbaston Station Homestead, Queensland, SAMA F.6595 (holotype of Chlamydogobius squamigenus 3.4 cm SL). Recorded from several localities in Queensland (Ref. 43716). Also Ref. 75154.

Status of threat: Critically Endangered, due to trampling and pollution of its habitat by cattle and the threat of invasion by mosquitofish Gambusia (Ref. 44894).
