Occurs in southern Australia, from Cape Hawke in New South Wales to Shark Bay in Western Australia, including Tasmania and southern seamounts. Bycatch of Hoplostethus atlanticus trawl fishery or by Japanese tuna longliners. Not utilized in the country because of the high mercury content in the flesh. Also Ref. 247, 7300.
