The species might had gone previously unnoticed due to: (i) its morphological similarity with the local species; (ii) its rare occurrence; (iii) the lack of earlier systematic studies of the coastal rocky reef communities and the fact that most distributional ranges for the Argentine marine fish fauna were described based on off-shore trawling data. However, the new record might also indicate true southward expansions of warm-temperate species favored by a possible increase in water temperature or might have been introduced into Nuevo Gulf by transport in water ballast of freighters or cruise ships that arrive in Puerto Madryn , Nuevo Gulf, from Brazil (Ref. 57919).
