Widely cultured in Patagonia since introduction, it has been transplanted to almost all waterbody of the country suitable for the species. It has become the most widely dispersed salmonid ranging from cold mountain streams and rivers at the Argentine tropics down to the tip of Tierra del Fuego. Recently reported in the province of Santa Cruz (Ref. 56821). Anadromous fish smolted at ages 2 and 3 years, matured after 1 to 2 years in the ocean, and survived up to 11 years, spawning up to 8 times. Non-anadromous fish survived up to 6 years, spawning up to 3 times (Ref. 74369). Also Ref. 1739.
