Espinas dorsales (total) : 14 - 17; Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 7 - 10; Espinas anales: 1; Radios blandos anales: 16 - 20. Very small supraorbital tentacle; in females, first dorsal fin shorter by half than second dorsal fin; in males, about two-thirds; male coloration dark gray with light gray mottling and a thin whitish bar below the eye; oblique suborbital blue streak observed in large males; fins translucent, mottled, and with gray spots; females comparatively pale and anteriorly bearing 2 indistinct, dark double bars that join below lateral line. Dorsal rays III + XI-XIV + 7-10; lateral line interrupted, 14-20 + 15-21; mandibular pores 2-3 + 1-2 + 2-3 (Ref. 54980).
