Naturally found in Mekong and Chao Phraya basins (Ref. 43281). Recorded from Maeklong and Southeast Thailand river systems (Ref. 26336); also from Klong Kok Kamyan (Suphanburi), Bangkok, Bung Borapet (Nakhon Sawan), Chai Nat and Songkhla (Ref. 37773). Naturally absent from Peninsular, Northern, and Western Thailand. Flesh of good quality; usually prepared by air drying. Reared in captivity for the ornamental fish trade (Ref. 6459).
