Comments: Known from Mekong, Chao Phraya and Peninsular Thailand river systems (Ref. 26336); also from Nakhon Sawan, Sakon Nakhon and Chanthaburi (Ref. 37773). Captured from the wild and reared in captivity for the ornamental fish trade (Ref. 6459, 57235). Also Ref. 36654.

Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Occurs in ditches, small ponds, and peats. Most common in standing or stagnant water that has a dense cover of floating plants and may sometimes has low oxygen levels. Feeds on zooplankton and aquatic insects (Ref. 12693).
